Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Lead Cost Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to deliver estimating, benchmarking, and commercial management services for a significant data center construction initiative. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and fellow consultants.
  • Formulate cost plans and project capital estimates throughout the design phase, providing updated cost plans at critical design milestones.
  • Generate cost reports and estimate packages, presenting findings to stakeholders regularly.
  • Offer commercial insights during design evaluations and contribute to value engineering efforts.
  • Conduct cost assessments and valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and precise cost checking and valuation processes.
  • Deliver comprehensive estimate and cost planning, including the presentation of the final cost plan to clients and project teams.
  • Review pricing from contractors and subcontractors, leading negotiations to secure fair contract prices.
  • Monitor margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts across all commissions.
  • Oversee the commercial evaluation of competitive bidding processes for major trades.
  • Integrate benchmarking to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Engage with general contractors and project managers to gather status updates for cost estimate revisions.
  • Prepare written feedback on contractor submissions, including executive summaries, and coordinate all sources of cost information.
  • Drive engineering priorities based on cost implications.
  • Work independently to address scheduling challenges.
  • Ensure that essential information and insights from each project are documented in internal databases.
  • Identify and implement improvements to internal systems and processes.
  • Manage financial aspects by tracking ongoing margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts.
  • Collaborate with design services teams and general contractors in developing cost estimates.
  • Reconcile changes during the planning phase and assist contractors in ensuring data accuracy.
  • Uphold quality standards and participate in compliance audits.
  • Effectively manage line responsibilities.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities with existing and potential clients.
  • Lead proposals for new projects or variations to current projects.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional presentation, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in cost management roles on large-scale projects during the preconstruction phase.
  • Strong understanding of cost factors, including material prices, labor, and overall project costs.
  • Proven experience in preparing cost management estimates and reports.
  • Expertise in advising clients on value management and value engineering.
  • Familiarity with key aspects of business development.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multitask, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and G-suite applications.
  • Strong analytical abilities and advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach.
  • Determination to add value and develop innovative solutions.
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships with project teams.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in managing a Cost Management team, ensuring accountability.
  • Demonstrated experience in large, critical construction projects such as data centers or similar industries.
  • Understanding of unit costs and factors influencing construction expenses.
  • Experience with Request for Proposal responses.
  • Strong communicator with a client-facing approach.
  • MEP experience is advantageous, particularly in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing estimating.
