We are seeking a highly qualified individual to join our team as a teaching specialist or lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Minnesota. This is a unique opportunity to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students.
Responsibilities- Teach 1-3 courses per semester, with a focus on introductory language courses, but also potentially literature and culture courses as needed.
- Prepare and deliver course materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments.
- Hold office hours and provide support to students, including those in the Tutor Lab.
- Administer proficiency tests and provide other administrative assistance to the department as needed.
- Master's degree in Spanish or Portuguese or a related field in Education, the Humanities, or Social Sciences for appointment as Teaching Specialist.
- Ph.D. degree in Spanish or Portuguese or a related field in Education, the Humanities, or Social Sciences for appointment as Lecturer.
- Native or near-native fluency in the language(s) of instruction.
- Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the relevant language or related field.
- Demonstration of commitment to quality teaching and program development.
- Strong English language communication skills.
- Positive evaluations from students, peers, and/or supervisors.
- Prior teaching experience at the same or similar course level.
- Progressive instructional work in the specific language of instruction.
- Demonstrated success with teaching, organizing, being collaborative, and mentoring students.
