CLINICAL SERVICES MANAGER

Key Responsibilities:
The Clinical Services Manager (CSM) is accountable for the comprehensive oversight of hospice clinical operations.

  • Facilitates assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of care for patients and their families, guiding all clinical staff as necessary.
  • Analyzes operational metrics to identify changes in patient census and fluctuations in service demand, which may affect staffing, revenue, or expenses.
  • Collaborates with the CEO in the recruitment, evaluation, and dismissal of clinical staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for clinical personnel at least biannually, or more frequently as needed.
  • Ensures compliance and accuracy of all clinical documentation, orders, practices, and processes executed by the clinical team.
  • Responsible for onboarding new staff members.
  • Participates in the design, development, and execution of training and continuing education programs to address the educational needs of staff.
  • Assists in evaluating organizational performance through quality improvement initiatives, productivity assessments, and regular reviews.
  • Ensures the delivery of high-quality and safe hospice services in accordance with all relevant regulations.
  • Promotes hospice referrals within the healthcare community.
  • Holds clinical staff accountable for achieving productivity and quality benchmarks.
  • Conducts joint visits with staff at least biannually and documents their performance.
  • Manages the on-call, weekend, and vacation schedules for all clinical personnel.
  • Ensures patient care adheres to agency policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Addresses patient complaints promptly and thoroughly, prioritizing customer service.
  • Documents complaints and communicates with staff regarding resolutions.
  • Assists in chart audits related to adverse events and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in regulatory agency evaluations.
  • Responsible for mentoring and developing staff to meet job expectations.
  • Collaborates with intake and marketing teams to manage new referrals.
  • Conducts patient visits and admissions as necessary based on staffing availability.
  • Collects and analyzes data for quality improvement programs, submitting quarterly results to the Compliance and Quality Manager.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Administrator.

Qualifications:
To qualify for the Clinical Services Manager position, candidates must possess:
  • A current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of employment.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • A Master's degree in healthcare is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of leadership experience in hospice or a related healthcare setting.
  • Proven ability to supervise and guide professional administrative staff.
  • Strong marketing skills and the ability to engage tactfully with clients and the community.
  • Knowledge of business management principles, regulatory requirements, and ACHC standards.
  • Reliable transportation for travel to patient homes as needed.
  • Physical capability to lift and move patients as required.
  • Ability to ensure clinically competent staffing that meets patient needs.
  • Competence in directing and overseeing patient care to ensure clinical appropriateness.
  • Efficiency in managing clinical operations in a cost-effective manner.
  • Proficiency in reviewing clinical documentation and conducting audits, providing staff education as necessary.
  • A valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.
  • Familiarity with governmental regulations and standards applicable to hospice care.

Working Environment:


This position involves working in patients' homes under various conditions, with potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases. Flexibility in scheduling and local travel is required, along with the ability to adapt to varying weather conditions.
