Job Summary:

As a Patient Access Representative Lead at Optum, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless patient experiences. Your primary responsibilities will include greeting and welcoming patients, collecting demographic and financial data, and entering information into electronic medical records.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet and welcome patients in person
  • Collect demographic and insurance information
  • Check in and interview patients to complete the registration process
  • Obtain signatures from patients as needed
  • Direct patients to their appointment or procedure
  • May assist in scheduling add-on appointments
  • Document any issues and resolutions in electronic medical records
  • Resolve claim issues or registration errors on patient accounts and in assigned work queues
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits information for payers and interpret results focusing on complex billing situations
  • Obtain cost information and explain it to patients if necessary
  • Collect on patient financial obligations
  • Handle complex questions as needed
  • Screen and approve patients for financial assistance programs, and provide financial counseling as needed
  • Provide technical or functional direction for employees
  • Assist patients in completing request for information forms and submit them to the appropriate department
  • Provide customer service for inbound and outbound telephone calls
  • Collaborate with leaders to ensure team operations are staffed and working effectively, and coordinate workflow among employees
  • Identify and bring forward trends to leadership related to daily site activities
  • Exhibit behaviors and expectations consistent with leadership roles
  • Complete Quality Audits as assigned per department guidelines
  • Participate in the orientation and training of employees and provide feedback to leadership
  • Will participate in on-call rotation as defined by site
  • Assist and support team in all roles
Requirements:
  • 2+ years of revenue cycle experience in a healthcare/hospital setting
  • 2+ years of customer service experience
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work 2:30pm – 11:00pm, Monday-Friday
  • Ability to work standard, daytime hours for first 3-4 weeks upon hire in alignment with the department's training schedule
  • 18 years or older
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Epic experience
  • Experience with electronic medical records
