Position Overview:
This Audiology Support Specialist role is situated within the Audiology Section of the Audiology & Speech Pathology Service at the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.

Employment Type:
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties involve assisting in various clinical and patient care environments associated with the Audiology service. The specialist will play a vital role in supporting the clinical programs.

Direct Patient Care Duties:
The responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcoming and guiding patients through the facility.
  • Assessing patients' needs and directing them to an audiologist based on the complexity of their cases.
  • Preparing patients for various audiological procedures, including vestibular and neurodiagnostic tests.
  • Providing education and counseling to patients regarding hearing loss, protection, and hearing aids, either individually or in group settings.
  • Conducting basic hearing tests without interpretation for hearing conservation purposes.
  • Performing non-diagnostic otoscopy and cerumen management.
  • Taking impressions for earmolds and troubleshooting hearing aids.
  • Offering fundamental information about hearing aids to patients and their caregivers.
  • Conducting listening checks and performing electroacoustic analysis of hearing devices.
  • Assisting in the programming and pairing of hearing aids and accessories via Bluetooth technology.
  • Training patients and staff on the use of personal hearing protection devices.

Administrative Duties:
Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Managing office supplies and tracking inventory of loaner hearing aids.
  • Handling electronic orders and verifying the arrival of components.
  • Scheduling patient appointments and processing transactions related to hearing aids.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment, ensuring proper infection control and management of clinical supplies.

Work Schedule:
Days: 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Compressed Schedule)

Telework:
This position does not offer telework options.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Six months of relevant experience or completion of two academic years beyond high school in a related field.
  • Certification by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) is required for certain assignments.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
