The Decision and Infrastructure Sciences (DIS) division specializes in the development of scientific tools and methodologies aimed at enhancing decision-making processes related to complex security, risk, and resilience issues. As a multidisciplinary laboratory, Argonne fosters a collaborative environment where interdisciplinary projects tackle intricate technical challenges by integrating natural, social, and computer science practices.

To support our mission in national security and intelligence analysis within the Emerging and Disruptive Technology (EDT) sector, DIS is looking for an Intelligence Analyst.

In this role, you will:

  • Formulate methodologies and processes to gather and evaluate pertinent intelligence data from across the Intelligence Community (IC) based on established and prioritized data requests.
  • Perform comprehensive analysis to investigate, propose, and draft a variety of finished intelligence reports concerning EDT, adhering to IC production standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in one or more core areas related to EDT.
  • Identify, define, and clarify the connections between relevant intelligence data and EDT initiatives and priorities.
  • Provide analytical support and expertise to sponsored research programs focusing on EDT, critical infrastructure, and national security.
  • Collaborate with Argonne subject matter experts in key emerging technology domains to create a range of assessments and reports for senior government officials.
  • Engage with DIS and other Argonne experts to assist government sponsors interested in various domestic and international security and threat landscapes.
Position Requirements

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must possess:
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship and currently hold Top Secret/SCI or Q/SCI clearance (DOD or DOE), as mandated by federal regulations and contracts.
  • A formal education in one of the EDT disciplines: Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Biology, or related fields. Candidates with a social science degree and relevant experience in one of the EDT technical areas will also be considered.
  • Expertise, experience, and skills in one or more specialized EDT technical domains, including artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), high-performance computing (HPC), quantum information sciences (QIS), biotechnology, and microelectronics/microprocessors.
  • Experience collaborating with Intelligence Community (IC) partners or other national security entities.
  • In-depth knowledge of intelligence analysis methodologies and experience in producing various finished intelligence products while adhering to appropriate information security protocols.
  • The ability to exercise independent judgment and abstract general solutions from specific challenges.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the capacity to translate technical information into accessible language for diverse sponsor audiences.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects concurrently, demonstrating effective project management practices and the ability to meet deadlines and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Experience in collaborating with team members and leading independent analyses in support of projects.
  • The ability to work on-site in a secure environment.

This position may be filled at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be assigned to the appropriate level (RD3 or RD4) based on their relevant knowledge and skills. The minimum qualifications for the two levels are as follows:
  • At the RD3 Level: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, Master's degree with 5+ years, or Doctorate with 4+ years.
  • At the RD4 Level: Bachelor's degree with 12+ years, Master's degree with 7+ years, or Doctorate with 6+ years.
