Manager, Advancement Special Events Coordinator

The National Geographic Society is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager, Advancement Special Events to join our team. This role will be responsible for the execution of Advancement Special Events in partnership with front-line fundraising teams, ensuring the success of our events and furthering our mission.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and execute 30-40 VIP regional donor events, both domestic and international, ensuring the event meets established business objectives.
- Direct coordination of programming and logistics, high-profile speakers, venue logistics, audio visual production, security protocols, volunteer and support staff supervision, travel and vendor logistics.
- Propose and implement new ideas to improve the event planning and execution processes.
- Participate in cross departmental committees to design the most compelling events/experiences.
- Research venues and vendors, drafting Requests for Proposals, as needed.
- Negotiate contracts in a manner that is consistent with industry best practices and aims to protect the Society's interests.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5+ years in event programming, production, marketing experience or relevant experience.
- Ability to attend evening and weekend events, as well as travel domestically or internationally to support on-site event execution.
- Effective written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely to various audiences' enterprise-wide.
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to handle emergency situations, demonstrating sound judgment under pressure.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver results with managing competing priorities under tight deadlines.
- Proactive, self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work with diplomacy and tact at all times.
