A successful Vice President of Safety Operations will exhibit strong leadership capabilities, attention to detail, resilience, and the ability to make swift decisions based on data analysis. Your commitment to eliminating the root causes of hazards and delivering high-quality service efficiently and proactively will be crucial. This role demands thorough analysis, tactical execution of safety initiatives, and approximately 50% travel to various sites, along with project management responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to foster collaborative relationships with diverse business teams within the operational framework.

Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Formulating a strategic safety framework in collaboration with your team members.
  • Identifying safety trends and potential risks within facilities, while supporting operations in implementing corrective actions.
  • Enhancing the safety culture through comprehensive training and guidance for safety and operations leaders on established safety programs.
  • Evaluating performance metrics, communicating findings to management at all levels, and ensuring safety is integrated into supply chain operations while addressing critical issues and compliance gaps.
  • Maintaining subject matter expertise in safety and engaging with industry resources as necessary.
  • Creating weekly reports on project progress, incidents, trend analyses, and overall project statuses.
  • Working autonomously with minimal supervision while effectively communicating with team members.
Safety Processes:
  • Reviewing safety metrics and incident reports weekly, assisting operations in identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Ensuring the implementation and monitoring of safety programs.
  • Utilizing Six Sigma methodologies to pinpoint safety solutions for unique operational processes.
  • Conducting site visits to engage with teams and audit compliance with safety programs.
  • Assisting in the development and execution of specialized safety programs.
  • Gathering feedback and exploring benchmarking opportunities within the industry to identify tools and processes that mitigate injury risks.
  • Leading a team of Associate Directors with both direct and indirect oversight.
Compliance and Regulatory Responsibilities:
  • Possessing a comprehensive understanding of Federal and State OSHA regulations.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety processes to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Supporting the creation and follow-up of remediation plans in response to safety-related citations.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for field teams regarding safety compliance issues.
  • Collaborating closely with Compliance partners, including Industrial Hygiene and Environmental teams, to address health exposure concerns related to safety enforcement.
  • Responding to incidents as needed.
  • Leading on-site during significant safety events.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or a related discipline.
  • Certification as a Safety Professional or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience in occupational safety and health, including NFPA standards.
  • Experience with OSHA VPP Star is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of multi-site experience managing regional leaders.
  • Experience in a Fulfillment or Distribution Environment.
