Job Summary
The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Manager to oversee our Hydrogen and Electrochemistry research division. This role is integral to our mission of advancing clean and renewable energy technologies. The Manager will operate within a flexible 9x80 work schedule, providing a balanced work-life dynamic.
Department Focus
The Hydrogen and Electrochemistry division is dedicated to enhancing the utilization of clean energy by innovating technologies that convert heat and electricity into chemicals and fuels at various scales. The Manager will lead three specialized research teams: transient kinetic analysis, chemical processing, and hydrogen and thermal systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the expansion of technology development and performance assessment aimed at producing clean hydrogen, chemicals, and fuels.
- Formulate and implement strategic business and technical initiatives to foster program growth and enhance capabilities.
- Coordinate with industry partners, academic institutions, and other research entities to promote collaborative efforts.
- Manage resource allocation and project performance, ensuring successful completion of interdisciplinary research activities.
- Oversee approximately 50 projects, providing guidance and mentorship to Principal Investigators while ensuring accountability for project outcomes.
- Lead initiatives to attract and retain top talent, collaborating closely with human resources and management.
- Conduct staff performance evaluations and support professional development within the department.
- Dedicate at least 30% of time to technical activities, contributing directly to research efforts.
Qualifications
A degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline is required, with an advanced degree preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Ph.D., 10 years with a Master’s degree, or 15 years with a Bachelor’s degree. A proven track record in research related to hydrogen production, complex systems modeling, and engineering system testing is essential.
