Position Summary

This role involves supporting forensic toxicologists in laboratory operations, focusing on biological samples and specimens, alongside administrative responsibilities such as report preparation and safety compliance.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The preferred candidate should hold a Bachelor's Degree in a natural science, biochemistry, forensic science, or a related discipline. A background of 1-2 years in analytical laboratory work, coupled with strong organizational and data entry capabilities, is essential. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is also crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, processes, and disposes of biological samples while preparing specimens for analysis.
  • Manages inventory and orders laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Conducts administrative data entry and prepares toxicology reports.
  • Performs quality assurance and safety checks within the laboratory.
  • Prepares reagents for laboratory use.
  • Undertakes other related duties as required.

Job Specifications

  • Familiarity with terminology and techniques utilized in a toxicology laboratory.
  • Proficient in using basic laboratory equipment (including balances, pipettes, centrifuges, pH meters).
  • Ability to adhere to laboratory instructions.
  • Capability to conduct fundamental laboratory tests.
  • Competence in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail is essential.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

Working Environment

  • Work is conducted in a laboratory setting with biohazardous materials and chemical hazards.

Work Category

Medium Work - Involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree from an accredited institution in a natural science such as chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, or a related field; AND
  • One year of experience in a laboratory setting; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education (at least a high school diploma/GED), training, and experience that would
  • reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
  • A valid Florida Driver's License.
