Sinai Akiba Academy is in search of a dynamic, innovative, and skilled Hebrew Studies Educator to become a vital member of our Lower School instructional team. This role involves teaching two classes within the Lower School, which may span from kindergarten to 8th grade, along with the possibility of an additional Hebrew language course tailored to a specific level. The educator will guide students through an engaging exploration of Torah, Jewish festivals, Hebrew language, the State of Israel, and Jewish historical narratives. Furthermore, they will foster students' social-emotional development, utilizing frameworks such as Responsive Classroom and RULER.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Duties:

  • Design, oversee, and execute the curriculum as the lead teacher in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators, parents, and specialists to create curriculum, address diverse student needs, organize field trips, and coordinate special projects and performances.
  • Ensure that teaching methods are developmentally suitable, culturally sensitive, and captivating for students.
  • Prepare and deliver lessons, units, and Jewish Education events as directed by the Director of Jewish Education.
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for lessons and projects to students and their families.
  • Develop, assign, and evaluate various assessments to foster a culture of feedback and monitor student progress.
  • Engage with students in diverse settings, including whole group, small group, and individual interactions.
  • Maintain proactive communication with the Educational Administrative Team regarding significant changes in student or family circumstances.
  • Collaborate with the Educational Administrative Team to create and implement Student Support Plans.

Classroom Environment:

  • Establish and maintain classroom norms and expectations to cultivate a positive and secure learning atmosphere.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and support regarding student behavior by setting clear expectations and logical consequences.
  • Adapt instructional strategies and materials to cater to the varied interests and learning styles of students.

Family Engagement:

  • Build and maintain a professional and friendly rapport with families, focusing on timely updates regarding student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with parents through formal and informal meetings, written reports, and other approved channels.
  • Seek assistance from the Educational Administrative Team when additional support is required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues to uphold the School's Mission and Core Values.
  • Participate actively in all staff meetings and professional development days.
  • Engage in school assemblies, events, and daily services.
  • Contribute to school committees and perform designated duties as assigned.
  • Complete all administrative tasks accurately and promptly.
  • Be a positive and contributing member of the Sinai Akiba Academy community.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A passion for teaching elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Proficiency in Hebrew language instruction.
  • A comprehensive understanding of educational best practices and child development.
  • Strong classroom management and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with educational technology and innovative teaching methodologies.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in a Lower School environment.
  • Experience with diverse student populations and families.
