Salary Range:
The University of California salary scales establish the minimum compensation based on rank and/or step at appointment. The salary range for this role is $78,200-$205,400. Additional compensation may be provided to meet competitive standards.

Position Description

The Department of Design Media Arts (DMA) at UCLA is seeking candidates for a faculty position focused on Game Studies.

Who Should Apply?

We invite applications from artists, scholars, designers, and developers who engage with innovative and critical perspectives on games. The DMA is part of the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture, offering both BA and MFA degrees. Candidates should have experience collaborating with artists and designers in various contexts and demonstrate expertise and recognition in game-related practices.

Ideal candidates will help shape the vision of the Design Media Arts Department and the UCLA Game Lab, contributing to our mission of integrating artistic practice with social responsibility and cultural inquiry in gaming.

Working in the Department of Design Media Arts (DMA)

Responsibilities

The position entails teaching three undergraduate studio courses and two graduate seminars each academic year, contributing to departmental service, supporting the UCLA Game Lab's objectives, and pursuing independent research and creative activities appropriate for advancement within the University of California. The teaching load is structured as 2,2,1, and service responsibilities include participation in departmental committees, mentoring junior faculty, and advising graduate students.

Basic Qualifications

Terminal degree (MFA or PhD in a relevant field) or equivalent professional experience of 5 years or more.

Basic Qualifications

Terminal degree (MFA or PhD in a related field) or equivalent professional experience of 5 years or more.

Additional Qualifications

- Distinction in the field of Game Studies.

- Ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience collaborating with artists and designers in various contexts is preferred but not mandatory.

- Evidence of leadership and community-building practices is preferred but not mandatory.
