Job Summary:
The Compliance Officer is responsible for overseeing the Northeastern Tribal Health System (NTHS) compliance program, ensuring high levels of compliance with all laws and regulations while supporting growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare law and management, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, initiate, maintain, and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities.
- Manage the oversight and compliance with any regulatory reporting.
- Lead Compliance Committee meetings.
- Collaborate with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
- Consult with general counsel as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
- Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.
- Monitor and coordinate compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.
- Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
- Provide reports on a regular basis and keep the CEO and Governing Board informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
- Institute and maintain an effective compliance communication program for the organization, including promoting the use of the compliance website, heightened awareness of the Code of Conduct, and understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures.
- Work with the Human Resource department and others as appropriate to develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees and ongoing training for all employees and managers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Law, Healthcare Law, Healthcare Management, or a related field. Can substitute with 6 years of related experience.
- Have or obtain American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC) Certificate.
- Exceptional knowledge of legal requirements and procedures.
- Management: ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
