Job Summary

Columbia University seeks a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Supervisor to join our team in the Animal Facility Operations department. As a key member of our team, you will assist the Supervisor in providing direction for the day-to-day operation of the animal facility, ensuring the highest level of care and compliance with federal, state, local, and institutional regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule, monitor, and supervise the animal husbandry and sanitation duties of husbandry technicians to ensure program and facility compliance with established laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Provide training for new hires with associated documentation of training and progress to assist in decisions of retention or dismissal.
  • Initiate, conduct, document, and monitor progressive discipline (when necessary) in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Maintain and verify the accuracy of employee time sheets for biweekly payroll production.
  • Act as a facilitator of research by providing expertise to facility users in the areas of husbandry techniques and related resources.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience, plus two years of experience in a laboratory animal facility.
  • Certification at the AALAS LATg level is preferred.
