Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Property Accountant will be integral to managing our portfolio of industrial properties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and record journal entries in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for designated portfolios.
  • Oversee and review the work of third-party offshore accounting teams, including bank reconciliations and monthly accounting documentation.
  • Conduct independent analysis of financial variances (budget/forecast vs. actual and month-to-month).
  • Analyze discrepancies between the General Ledger and other financial systems.
  • Prepare reconciliations for property-related accounts to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of balances; make adjusting entries as necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with Property Management and Asset Management teams to monitor operations and their financial implications, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and review of property budgets.
  • Verify lease setups in the property management system (Yardi) against executed lease documents.
  • Apply our capitalization policy and coordinate with internal teams to manage capital expenditure processes with lenders.
  • Review monthly sales tax transactions and prepare necessary forms for submission to tax authorities.
  • Understand the implications of accounts receivable transactions in Yardi on the general ledger.
  • Verify the accuracy of CAM Reconciliation calculations within the Yardi system.
  • Support the onboarding of newly acquired properties into the monthly reporting process and facilitate true-up processes with previous owners.
  • Record property tax accruals and manage the timely payment of taxes.
  • Comprehend and assist in the implementation of policies and procedures, providing recommendations for process improvements.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of general accounting experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Yardi Voyager, and general internet applications.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing accurate financial reports within established deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with peers, Property Managers, and supervisors, ensuring high levels of customer service.
  • Familiarity with standard accounting practices within the real estate sector.
  • Strong sense of accountability to meet reporting timelines.
