Job Title: After School Peer Specialist

At Oswego County Opportunities, Inc., we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our After School team as a Peer Specialist. This is a part-time position that will provide support and activities to youth after school, promoting academic excellence, social competence, and community responsibility.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the After School Site Supervisor, the Peer Specialist will work as part of the After School team to provide direct services to peers, role-modeling and assisting in building skills that lead to academic excellence, social competence, and community responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in assessment and provision of services that meet the needs of program youth.
  • Guide youth in the decision-making process.
  • Serve as a Youth Leader in activities and meetings.
  • Encourage youth participation, assist in planning and facilitating with groups for youth.
  • Participate in community activities and work to maintain positive community relationships.
  • Speak to school and community groups about the after-school program.
Requirements:
  • Must be between the age of 16 and 19 years of age and a current resident of the Fulton City School District.
  • Must display maturity, have a desire to work with school-age youth, and have the ability to work in a supportive and non-judgmental manner.
  • Must be able to follow directions and be self-motivated.
  • Must exhibit good judgment.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must maintain confidentiality with regard to participant issues.
  • Must work well alongside adults and youth.
  • Must be resourceful, imaginative, and creative.
  • Must be willing to learn and grow.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule.
  • Must have reliable means to get to and from the worksite.
