Job Title: Advanced Controls Engineer

Franklin Automation Inc. is seeking an experienced Advanced Controls Engineer to join our team in Sugar Grove, IL.

Job Summary:

The Advanced Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing electrical and controls systems for our custom assembly machines. This includes interpreting client requirements, identifying and addressing design parameters and engineering problems, and ensuring solutions are implemented accurately and within budget.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop electrical and controls system design solutions based on Franklin's standard engineering principles
  • Work closely with our controls programmer to develop and maintain standardized machine control platforms
  • Provide comprehensive project documentation in the form of machine sequences to programmer(s)
  • Create and finalize designs to meet project requirements
  • Create accurate detailed Bill of Materials
  • Actively participate in both internal and customer design reviews for all assigned projects
  • Build complex automation as designed with a focus on electrical and pneumatic systems including panel layout and wiring, panel to machine wiring and machine pneumatics
  • Integrate automation devices with machine control including Servo Drives, Robots, Label machines, dispensers, leak testers, vision systems, etc
  • Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed
  • Install and Commission machines onsite at customer facilities
  • Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or similar related degree)
  • 4 - 6 years related job experience
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Proficient with MS Office, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, SolidWorks
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems
