Position Overview
POWER Engineers is seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work environment, with the requirement to reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively within a team to tackle complex and technically demanding electrical design projects while ensuring compliance with client specifications.
The role involves the design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations, including but not limited to:
- One-line diagrams
- Physical layouts
- Equipment selection
- General arrangement plans, sections, and elevations
- Control building design and details
- Cable and conduit plans and details
- Ground grid design and details
- Lightning protection design and details
- Yard lighting design and details
- Schematic diagrams
- Wiring diagrams
- Communications
- Material lists
- Conduit and cable sizing/routing
- AC and DC systems calculations and sizing
- Engineering documentation such as Requests for Information (RFIs), Scope Documents, Equipment Specifications, and Construction Specifications
Additionally, the engineer will collaborate with CAD designers/drafters to produce comprehensive drawing packages, coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines, and participate in quality assurance and quality control initiatives.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in electrical engineering. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word, is essential.
The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively interact with both internal teams and external clients. Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
A keen interest in electrical design engineering for power delivery projects, familiarity with electrical utility substations, and the ability to create detailed drawings from various sources are advantageous. Candidates with an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam will be given preference.
