Job Title: Court Representative

Job Summary:

The Court Representative will serve as a liaison between the Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) program and the assigned court(s) within the five boroughs. This role requires a basic understanding of the ATI program and the Supreme and Criminal Court Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage potential ATI participants and their families in Supreme and Criminal Court
  • Complete program intake with clients and families
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with judges, legal guardians, assistant corporation counsel, defense attorneys, probation, and other Court partners
  • Meet with participants and services staff to discuss program performance
  • Collect screening information on intake and re-arrest cases, monitor warrants, and track cases to program case closure
  • Cultivate relationships with all relevant court personnel and/or other stakeholders
  • Provide the Case Manager with all required participant and case information, including court-imposed conditions, special circumstances, contacts, and next court date and part information, to initiate a case management file for the released participant
  • Interest in and sensitivity to issues facing young people in the criminal justice system and their families
  • Demonstrate ability to gather and evaluate accuracy of information under often less than ideal circumstances and formulate persuasive arguments for eligible defendants to be placed in programs
  • Timely documentation and reporting in all entry systems
  • Enter intakes, insurance, and other pertinent information into the agency database system EVOLV
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Sr. Court Representative

Organizational Expectations:

  • Adherence to The Foundling's employee policies, Code of Conduct, and applicable rules, laws, regulations, or bargaining agreements
  • Appropriate engagement with support departments to ensure appropriate and timely hiring, performance management, investigation, discipline, suspension, and restructuring decisions concerning direct reports
  • Any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, or Psychology or related field required
  • Bilingual applicants (fluency in Spanish/English or other languages) encouraged to apply

Preferred Experience:

  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Email, and Data entry systems
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Sr. Court Representative and program staff
  • Familiarity with Alternative to Detention (ATD), Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) or other advocacy program models

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Juvenile Justice
  • Alternative to Incarceration programs
