The Director of Medical Affairs will be responsible for guiding the strategic vision and managing the operational execution of the Medical Affairs (MA) initiatives. This role encompasses the formulation and implementation of strategic plans, oversight of contracting processes, development of performance dashboards, and the management of multiple concurrent projects. The individual will collaborate cross-functionally with various leaders and departments (including all Medical Affairs divisions, Commercial, Compliance, IT, Finance, Clinical Development, and Legal) to ensure the successful delivery of all MA workstreams and projects while providing essential medical insights for both strategic and tactical support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the annual strategic plan for medical affairs and provide operational assistance for medical programs, which includes managing vendor onboarding and generating purchase orders for both new and existing vendors and agencies, along with necessary tracking and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with MA leadership to develop the annual advisory board strategy, overseeing logistics, contracting, vendor sourcing, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Manage budgetary aspects, including forecasting, annual operating plans, and actual accruals. Ensure precise and current budget tracking that contributes to periodic corporate budget reforecasting and annual program budget projections.
  • Design and maintain cross-functional launch and project-specific dashboards for MA, including presentation materials for Board of Directors meetings and dashboard reports.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of MA capabilities, processes, and systems to identify areas for enhancement and implement improvements with leadership to drive efficiency and provide comprehensive reporting capabilities.
  • Work in conjunction with field medical affairs for CRM reporting activities.
  • Guarantee adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all activities, identify and escalate issues/risks appropriately, and ensure 100% audit readiness for medical affairs programs.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably in a health-related discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical sector with a strong grasp of the Medical Affairs function. Experience with product launches is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with proven project management skills and a constructive approach to managing staff, vendors, and project-related challenges.
  • A collaborative team player with strong self-awareness and exceptional interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven capacity to influence others and effectively lead in a cross-functional setting.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for conferences and meetings.
