Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Head of the iCELS Simulation Program is tasked with overseeing staff organization and management, financial planning, and the evaluation of ongoing Simulation Program initiatives, ensuring adherence to administrative protocols. Furthermore, this role encompasses the strategic and operational leadership of the Simulation Program, including the creation, enhancement, and promotion of initiatives that benefit UMass Chan and its external partners. The Head will formulate and implement business strategies for the Simulation Program while effectively managing its resources.



Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily administration and operations of the Simulation Program, encompassing educational activities, research, and innovation.
  • Identify and develop new business avenues to optimize impact, resource allocation, and expertise.
  • Prepare and manage the Simulation Program budget, including labor, operational, and capital expenditures to ensure efficient workflow and quality assurance.
  • Represent the department in both internal and external meetings, as well as at regional and national conferences.
  • Supervise administrative personnel and facilitate team development and training.
  • Lead efforts in accreditation support and strategic planning, prioritizing resources to align with the center's mission and vision.
  • Spot opportunities for enhancement and innovation within Simulation Program curricula, instructional technologies, and operational frameworks.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of Simulation Program facilities, equipment, and materials while maximizing their availability for educational purposes.
  • Safeguard Simulation Program data security and confidentiality in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to explore opportunities for completing, presenting, and publishing findings from Simulation Program research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in outreach activities, including conducting facility tours and participating in public relations and community engagement efforts.
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and standards of practice that align with the Center's educational goals.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in business, education, healthcare, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience, including 3 years in leadership and management roles (people and projects) within complex organizations.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and project management.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills necessary for interaction with medical school faculty and staff at all levels.
  • Experience in reporting and quality tracking for institutional accreditation.
  • Proficient in budget development, management, and implementation, including grant budget oversight.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications, particularly the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development with a focus on maximizing profitability while adhering to mission requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, evidenced by the ability to prepare technical and confidential materials, including presentations, proposals, and reports.
  • Ability to manage complex operational priorities, utilizing data systems to inform decision-making.
  • Capacity to exercise diplomacy, build effective working relationships, and maintain professionalism in interactions with faculty and staff.
  • Willingness to work on campus and travel to off-site locations as needed.
