Position Overview

Siemens Mobility is a prominent provider of rail solutions, seeking skilled Rail Traffic Controllers (Dispatchers) to effectively manage and oversee the dispatching operations of numerous railroads across North America. This dynamic role requires quick thinking and effective communication while handling inquiries from train crews, local authorities, and the public concerning train operations and potential emergencies.

As a Rail Traffic Controller, you will receive comprehensive training to handle incoming calls, often requiring you to extract critical information to ensure safety and efficiency. Your responsibilities will include coordinating train movements to enhance operational effectiveness while safeguarding all train activities and associated personnel. The initial training compensation is set at $17.10/hour, and upon successful qualification (typically within 4-6 months), your earnings will increase to $24.51/hour. Additionally, a hiring bonus of $1,000.00 will be awarded in installments as outlined below:

  • First pay period after 30 days of employment ($300.00)
  • First pay period after completing training and qualifying as a Rail Traffic Controller ($300.00)
  • First pay period after 6 months post-qualification ($400.00)
Key Qualifications:
  • Flexibility is essential – our operations run 24/7/365, requiring availability for rotating shifts (First Shift: 6am-2pm, Second Shift: 2pm-10pm, Third Shift: 10pm-6am). Shift premiums apply for evening and overnight shifts, as well as certain weekend shifts.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize – you will manage multiple monitors displaying various train operations across the country. Familiarity with travel times, speeds, and distances is crucial to minimize delays, with an expectation of handling over 100 calls per shift.
  • A strong willingness to learn – adherence to Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations is vital. Your eagerness to understand the infrastructure of the transportation system will contribute to your success. Proficiency in navigating various computer systems and typing quickly is necessary to relay critical information promptly.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma; further education is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in digital tools (MS Office Suite).
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug testing.
  • DOT physical examination, including hearing and color vision tests.
