Position Overview

The role of the Recovery Specialist is to assist individuals in their journey towards recovery from substance use disorders. This position entails acting as a mentor, advocate, and source of motivation for those in recovery, aiming to minimize the risk of relapse and encourage sustained recovery.

The Recovery Specialist oversees the treatment facility, ensuring that clients' fundamental needs are met during detoxification or residential care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain accurate records and documentation in designated files and databases.
  2. Conduct client rounds and document observations on the designated rounds sheet.
  3. Review shift reports at the start of each shift and complete personal shift reports and tasks by the end of the shift.
  4. Execute new admission procedures in line with company policies, including urine analysis, belongings searches, and necessary paperwork.
  5. Document daily client progress in their respective files.
  6. Monitor and record clients' medication intake in accordance with company policies.
  7. Track and document clients' vital signs, including blood pressure, following guidelines set by the company and regulatory bodies.
  8. Transport clients to various appointments and meetings as required.
  9. Facilitate Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) counseling group sessions and maintain necessary documentation.
  10. Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  11. Perform administrative tasks such as filing and copying as assigned.
  12. Assist, instruct, and supervise clients in general program activities.
  13. Ensure cleanliness and organization of the facility as required.
  14. Record work hours daily in the company's timekeeping system.
  15. Complete all duties and documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a human services environment, with strong references highlighting customer service, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to assist in emergency situations, both physically and mentally.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment.
  • Proficient in computer use and able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with clients, administration, treatment teams, and family members.
  • Must possess a clean driving record and meet the criteria set by company insurance policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related social science field.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to work effectively within the community.
  • Competence in engaging with individuals diagnosed with chemical dependence.
  • Ability to utilize de-escalation techniques and recognize early signs of distress.
  • Skill in providing empathetic and engaging responses.
  • Capability to maintain composure and self-awareness in verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Flexibility in adjusting communication styles to promote coping skills.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Any CADAC or certified AOD counselor certification
  • BBS Intern Certification
  • Valid Driver's License

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to move throughout the residential facility and community.
  2. Frequent use of hands for repetitive tasks and operation of office equipment.
  3. Capability to sit or stand for extended periods, as well as bend, climb, and lift up to 25 lbs.
  4. Strong reading, writing, and communication skills, with effective time management and interpersonal abilities.
  5. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment.
  6. Must have reliable transportation and a clean driving record as required by state law.

Attendance Expectations:

Consistent attendance and timely communication regarding any attendance issues with supervisors as per company policy are essential.

Language Proficiency:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence, as well as write complex correspondence. Capable of effectively presenting information in both one-on-one and small group settings.

Reasoning Skills:

Adept at solving practical problems and managing a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
