Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Farm Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operations of our farms, including strategic planning, budget management, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for agriculture, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Management of Farm Portfolio (30% of time):

  • Manage the daily operations of our farms, ensuring safe and efficient production.
  • Develop and implement effective irrigation schedules and agronomy playbooks to optimize crop yields.
  • Monitor and mitigate risks that could negatively impact crop health, such as weather events and pests.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with local vendors and suppliers.


Budget Management (25% of time):

  • Develop and manage annual budgets for each farm, ensuring accurate forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Manage labor spend and hiring to meet farm needs.
  • Partner with the Asset Manager to manage long-term investment performance, including capital expenditures and debt management.


Lead/Manage/Hold Accountable (LMA) Farm Teams (20% of time):

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with farm teams, including Assistant Farm Managers, Foremen, and Field Operators.
  • Lead monthly meetings with farm teams to share company updates and receive feedback.
  • Develop and implement coaching and development programs to improve team performance and readiness for future roles.
  • Uphold and improve upon Gold Leaf Farming's culture and values at all farms.


Lead Farm-Level Agronomic Strategy (15% of Time):

  • Conduct experimentation planning and execution to determine new best practices for use on all Gold Leaf Farming farms.
  • Partner with the Head of Farming and Director of Farming Operations to trial new AgTechnology and enable future adoption.
  • Develop and implement long-term sustainability plans for each farm, optimizing where possible.


Internal and External Stakeholder Management (10% of Time):

  • Partner with the Procurement Specialist and Operations Support Team to ensure all farming supplies and equipment are procured and readily available.
  • Manage relationships with local vendors and suppliers, seeking support when necessary.
  • Maintain regular contact with Gold Leaf Farming Management and cross-functional support partners to share information, best practices, and work through farm-specific problems.


Requirements

An ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Experience in a related field or with permanent crops, preferred but not required.
  • Previous people management experience, preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred but not required.
  • Strong passion for leading and developing teams with a genuine care for people.
  • Excited by technology and innovation with experience in basic usage of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other professional software programs.

Compensation

The target annual salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 plus company equity, potential performance-related bonus compensation, and an employer-sponsored benefits package. Individual compensation may vary based on additional factors, including job-related experience, skills, and/or relevant education or training.
