About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mental Health Services Clinician/Clinical Coordinator of Substance Use Disorder Services to join our team at Johns Hopkins University. As a key member of our Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services (MHS) team, you will play a vital role in delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of our diverse community of learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct clinical services, including goal-oriented approaches to initial consultations, intake assessments, single-session therapy, individual counseling, group and relationship counseling, and crisis intervention for a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Develop and implement assessment interventions with a special focus on substance use disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns, to assist MHS providers in delivering optimal care to their clients.
  • Develop and implement group interventions with a particular focus on substance use disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns.
  • Collaborate with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team, including therapists, psychiatric providers, primary care clinicians, case management, and disability services staff.
  • Provide clinical case management to support connections to appropriate resources and bridge clients to care.
  • Consult, as appropriate, with providers in the community to facilitate continuity of care.
Outreach and Education
  • Develop, implement, and integrate evaluation feedback for psycho-educational workshops and other presentations for JHU students and learners, with a special focus on substance use disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns using a harm reduction framework.
  • Engage in opportunities for informal interactions with students to reduce barriers to counseling, which may include offering drop-in and chat hours, attending student events, and participating in a range of student-led and student-focused programs.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the campus community through participation in outreach and educational activities including orientation, resource fairs, and community activities.
  • Contribute to content for MHS social media and website content.
  • Serve as liaison to a school, division, or department within JHU to enhance relationships with faculty, staff, students, and trainees; range of activities may include needs assessment, embedded chat or drop-in hours, participation in CARE teams, facilitating skills training or workshops, consultation, etc.
Collaborative and Other Activities
  • Remain abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies, with a particular focus on substance use disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns.
  • Contribute to the professional development of trainees and SHWB staff through the provision of didactic training and seminars, with a particular focus on substance use disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns within a harm reduction framework.
  • Lead or participate in a multi-disciplinary substance use disorders-focused clinical collaborative.
  • Participate in case consultation, student risk management, peer chart reviews, and other departmental committees as directed.
  • Participate in clinical training programs; licensed psychologists will enter the pool of available individual supervisors for the APA-approved psychology internship training program after 2 years of post-licensure experience.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners to support both clinical and programmatic needs of students and learners, with a particular focus on substance use disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns within a harm reduction framework.
  • Participate in MHS recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Complete documentation and administrative duties in accordance with MHS policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Independently licensed as a mental health provider in primary required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description prior to start date; licensure in additionally required jurisdiction(s) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate clinical experience.
