JOB SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering nursing care to patients by employing the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves directing and guiding other assigned team members while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure age and developmentally appropriate care in alignment with nursing standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:

Must possess Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within one year of hire for Adult Critical Care and Adult Emergency Department roles. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within one year of hire for specific pediatric and neonatal units.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Deliver patient- and family-centered care utilizing the nursing process, focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs of patients. This includes conducting assessments, developing nursing diagnoses, identifying outcomes, planning interventions, coordinating care, and promoting health education.
  2. Ensure a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by maintaining patient privacy and demonstrating respectful and professional behavior.
  3. Utilize and advocate for the use of technology and equipment to enhance patient and staff safety.
  4. Communicate effectively to facilitate information sharing throughout the continuum of care and as a collaborative member of the healthcare team.
  5. Exhibit professionalism by actively participating in a professional practice model, which includes engaging in shared governance, adhering to care standards, participating in peer reviews, and pursuing professional development.
  6. Perform and maintain competency in point-of-care testing as assigned, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
  7. Act as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care, including various patient settings and within the community.
  8. Coordinate the efficient delivery of patient care services by applying care management principles, identifying clinical priorities, and initiating actions to enhance patient outcomes.
  9. Demonstrate professionalism through active participation in shared governance and commitment to personal responsibility for professional growth.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to provide both direct and indirect patient care, strong interpersonal communication skills, and the capacity to work collaboratively with others. Proficient written and oral communication skills are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to manage moderate to high stress levels.
  • May encounter crowded conditions occasionally.
  • Moderate noise levels are typical.
  • Capable of handling emergency or crisis situations.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and stressful scenarios.
  • Regular exposure to risks associated with bloodborne pathogens, infections, and contagious diseases.
  • Engagement with patients, family members, community members, colleagues, and medical staff in diverse circumstances.
  • Ability to cover for absentee replacements on short notice.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
