Position Overview

Job Title: Early Childhood Support Specialist

The role of an Early Childhood Support Specialist is to enhance the educational experience for young learners by executing various instructional and non-instructional responsibilities under the guidance of certified professionals, including teachers and therapists.

This position may involve providing individualized support to eligible preschool-aged children in various educational environments, including preschools and childcare settings. The flexible work calendar spans 189 days and will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the children served.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist children during arrival and departure times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  2. Support students with personal care tasks, including bathroom assistance and feeding, as necessary.
  3. Prepare and manage instructional materials and equipment as directed by educators.
  4. Respond to emergencies by following established protocols and notifying supervisors as needed.
  5. Maintain cleanliness and organization in classrooms and care areas, adhering to health guidelines.
  6. Document attendance and collect data as required, ensuring confidentiality in handling special education information.
  7. Complete necessary billing processes in a timely manner for assigned children.
  8. Facilitate the use of educational technology and assistive devices to support individualized learning.
  9. Communicate effectively with children and educational staff through various means.
  10. Supervise and engage with students during instructional activities and emergency drills, following program policies.
  11. Implement reinforcement strategies as directed by certified professionals, focusing on various developmental areas.
  12. Follow and support Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the guidance of certified professionals.
  13. Participate in required training sessions to enhance job performance.
  14. Travel between assignments as necessary, with a designated base location for travel reimbursement.
  15. Perform additional educational duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications

1. An Associate degree or equivalent college credits (60) or a PATTAN Paraeducator Certificate is required.

2. Experience working with children with special needs is strongly preferred.

3. Training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid is advantageous.

4. Ability to collaborate effectively within an educational team.

5. Strong interpersonal communication skills.

6. Clear and distinct verbal communication abilities.

7. Capacity to prioritize student needs based on directives from educators and IEP goals.

8. Experience with preschool-aged children is preferred.

9. Reliable transportation is necessary.

Additional Requirements:

1. Clearances as mandated by state regulations must be obtained prior to employment.

2. A completed School Personnel Health Record and TB Test is required before the hire date.

Working Conditions:

The physical demands of this position include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, navigate stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds. Accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

1. Ability to engage with children at their level, including sitting on preschool-sized furniture.

2. Capacity to communicate clearly and effectively.

3. Adequate vision and hearing to perform job duties.
