Job Summary

As a Chaplain at Jefferson Health, you will provide compassionate and empathetic spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in a diverse and busy urban setting. You will assess the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of individuals and develop care plans to address those needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide spiritual care with respect, empathy, and compassion to patients, families, and staff.
  • Assess the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of individuals and develop care plans to address those needs.
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary care team and the chaplaincy team to recommend and directly address patient, visitor, and staff needs.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, taking into account their individual perspectives and needs.
  • Share in on-call responsibilities, including daytime, weekend, and overnight shifts.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree or equivalent, and 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE, Inc.) required.
  • Experience working as a chaplain in a medical setting required.
  • Experience working as a chaplain in an urban Emergency Room and Trauma Center, strongly preferred.
  • Experience and expertise working with a Muslim population.
  • Congregational or other clergy experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of major faith groups, pastoral theology, dynamics of loss and grief, and crisis theory and intervention.
  • Recognition of being in good standing within a faith group.
  • Evidence of ability to learn new computer software programs.
  • Board Certification (or eligibility for) required within 24 months of hire.
Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment, you will be required to undergo a Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, a Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI fingerprint-based federal criminal records check. You will not be allowed to commence working until all three checks are completed satisfactorily.
