Senior Patient Services Representative - Orthopedics

At Houston Methodist, the Senior Patient Services Representative plays a crucial role in enhancing the patient experience by managing check-in and check-out processes as well as scheduling appointments. This position involves handling complex scheduling tasks and serving as a mentor to junior staff members. Responsibilities also include ensuring accurate claims submissions and supporting various revenue cycle functions. Additional duties encompass providing operational assistance and patient service tasks tailored to departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities:

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Fosters a collaborative and positive work environment, actively engaging with team members to achieve departmental goals.
  • Executes patient check-in and check-out procedures, ensuring accurate data entry for scheduling and registration to facilitate financial clearance.
  • Manages patient flow efficiently, addressing any issues that may cause service delays or cancellations.
  • Acts as a mentor for less experienced staff, providing guidance and resolving complex issues.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Utilizes exceptional communication skills to deliver high-quality service to patients, physicians, and team members.
  • Contributes to overall satisfaction among patients, employees, and physicians while supporting effective revenue cycle processes.
  • Assists with departmental correspondence and generates necessary reports as required.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Serves as a liaison among patients, medical staff, and external parties to resolve access and service quality issues.
  • Inputs patient and operational data into various systems with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensures compliance with patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations while conveying necessary information.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Accurately records information related to charge entry, registration, and insurance verification to meet financial objectives.
  • Organizes workload effectively to minimize overtime and prioritizes tasks efficiently.
  • Utilizes departmental resources responsibly and participates in inventory management.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Demonstrates initiative in improving job functions and suggests process enhancements for better patient flow.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of five years of experience, including three years in a related healthcare role.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates the necessary skills and competencies for safe job performance.
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate with patients and staff.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and revenue cycle components.
  • Capable of analyzing and resolving problems effectively.
