The Virginia Department of Transportation Bristol District is looking for our next Assistant Residency Administrator to help drive us forward

The Assistant Residency Administrator is responsible for the coordination, integration, and management of VDOT resources that impact the Residency program. At the discretion of the Residency Administrator, this person may serve as the focal point for services and the primary contact or liaison for local governments on activities that impact the local geographic region, and manage resources allocated to the program to achieve its objectives

As defined by VDOT Department Memorandum (DM) Number: 17-1 – Emergency Operations and Traffic Management, VDOT is an emergency operation agency. As such, this job is essential to emergency response operations and expected to work in these situations. Report to work when called. Maintain communications with supervisor. Keep abreast of weather forecasts for duty readiness in reporting. Be prepared to operate appropriate equipment in all kinds of weather.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

• Skill in building and maintaining effective relationships.

• Ability to manage conflict.

• Ability to manage and direct the activities of a large-scale multi-faceted public service operation to include budgeting, prioritizing, scheduling, and problem solving.

• Ability to lead people and get results through others.

• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.

• Considerable knowledge of federal and state rules, regulations, and policies as they relate to transportation.

• Ability to train and manage the performance of others.

• Working knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices.

• Ability to make quality and timely decisions without having complete information.

• Skill in developing and managing effective teams.

• Ability to work effectively with customers with multiple needs or interests to resolve issues and complaints.

Additional Considerations

• Experience leading and supervising others.

• Experience in budget development and administration using automated financial software systems.

• Professional Engineer license or EIT.

• A combination of training, experience or education in civil engineering or related field desired.

• Experience in the management of transportation programs and projects of varying complexity.
