D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Region Counsel. The right candidate will oversee and coordinate all region’s legal matters with emphasis on land acquisition. Advise the Region President on all acquisition matters involving the divisions within the region.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide legal advice related to land acquisition and development, including drafting contracts and related documents, working with division personnel, handling closings, consulting with and coordinating outside counsel as necessary
  • Review and revise homebuyer contract documents; advise regarding RESPA issues and other issues
  • Review and revise subcontractor contract documents, handle disputes
  • Review safety programs, review and revise manual and written policies, handle safety issues including OSHA
  • Review marketing contract and programs; draft documentation as necessary
  • Provide advice regarding employment matters and issues; assist in drafting job descriptions; handle disputes, draft policies, involve outside counsel as necessary
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight
  • Coordinate outside counsel as necessary
  • Provide advice regarding legal issues in construction and warranty
  • Provide advice regarding various other region matters

Qualifications 

Required Qualifications

  • Jurist Doctoral degree (J.D.) or equivalent
  • More than ten years of related experience and/or training
  • Licensed attorney
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision
  • The noise level is generally moderate

  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and attention to detail
