Mental Health Professional

Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Technician to join our team in the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). This 16-bed state-licensed facility specializes in crisis stabilization and hospital diversion for mentally ill adults.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, rehabilitation counseling or human services-related field, with at least one year of experience working with seriously mentally ill individuals. The selected individual must also be able to submit official transcripts and demonstrate 1,500 hours of supervised experience within a five-year period.
Job SummaryMental Health Technicians play a vital role in maintaining the safety of clients, monitoring those with special needs, coordinating meal service, facilitating educational groups, teaching coping skills, and performing related tasks as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities- Monitor and maintain unit safety, ensuring the well-being of clients.
- Assist clients with activities of daily living, including eating, sleeping, and hygiene habits.
- Facilitate and assist with program group development, completing documentation as required.
- Perform direct client service duties, such as greeting clients upon arrival and taking inventory for contraband and pests.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the unit, scrubbing and mopping floors as needed, wiping down kitchen counters and tables, and organizing the group room.
- Perform laundry duties for the unit and clients' personal items, assisting those with special needs and serving meals.
- Engage with clients face-to-face, providing verbal support, and completing progress notes for each interaction.
- Coordinate discharges in collaboration with the case management team.
- Complete shift reports and fax meal requisitions to the catering organization.
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A general knowledge of community resources, programs, and regional/state sources for community service populations.
- Familiarity with interviewing and supportive counseling techniques, social casework methods, and theories/principles/techniques of individual, family, and group therapy.
- Problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, and effective communication skills to convey complex ideas orally and in writing.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical personnel, law enforcement, clients, associates, and the general public.
