Lycoming College, one of the nations oldest residential liberal arts and sciences colleges, invites candidates for two full-time openings with the Public Safety team as a Communications Officer.

With a first-rate undergraduate education and an increased commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable campus community that supports all faculty, staff, and students, we are seeking candidates who can support and contribute to our mission and 2021 strategic plan.  This position is often the first departmental contact for the Lycoming Community within the Public Safety Office. Fulfilling this role requires Communication Officers to be exceptionally attuned to the needs and experiences of all members of Lycomings diverse community and be adept at supporting and enhancing the campus experience of all with whom they work.

This position has 2 full-time openings that are Sunday Thursday 3:00 pm 11:00 pm and Monday - Friday 7a-3p and are eligible for benefits. The position also has a part-time opening of Friday - Sunday 11p-7am. The pay for these positions begins at $13.50 per hour and includes retention bonuses of $.50 per hour after six months of active employment and an additional $1.00 per hour after a year of active employment.

Founded in 1812, Lycoming College is one of the nations oldest and most respected residential liberal arts and sciences colleges and is becoming increasingly recognized for the quality of its experiential programming and for students gaining the skills needed upon graduation in todays world. Students partner with faculty in doing original research, thrive in a robust program of internships, study abroad in more than two dozen countries, and compete in 19 NCAA Division III sports. Lycoming Colleges strong endowment per student provides the foundation to support a first-rate undergraduate education. What will I do in this role?
  • Respond promptly to and properly document calls for service in accordance with applicable policies and procedures for functions including, but not limited to:
    • Alarms (fire, physical plant systems, and other)
    • Assisting with students, employees, visitors
    • Emergencies
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with all members of the campus community and visitors.
  • Accept and return lost and found property according to the established policies and procedures
  • Complete communication logs
    • radio/telephone log
    • vehicle use log
  • Responsible for distributing keys and returning them to the key cabinet
  • De-escalate difficult situations by remaining calm, being empathetic, and maintaining impulse control to resolve matters while ensuring the exercise of authority respects the rights of individuals and groups, identities and lived experiences.
  • Assist local law enforcement, fire, and other emergency service agencies in the performance of duties when requested.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

What are we looking for?

Experience and Qualifications:
Skills:
  • Computer skills essential (knowledge of Microsoft Word; experience using email and internet)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal/communications skills required to respond to sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact (e.g. listening, verbal/non-verbal skills)
  • Strong written communication skills to effectively communicate and document required reports.

Abilities:
  • Ability to develop and maintain a working knowledge of college policies and procedures.
