Job Title:  Vice President of Operations - VPO

Job Description 

Roles - The VPO will oversee and manage all aspects of our retail operations and drive strategic initiatives with our administrative team, ensuring the delivery of top-notch customer service, compliance with state regulations, and achieving business objectives. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong operational background and a comprehensive knowledge of the cannabis industry. The VP of Operations will work closely with all executive team members to ensure the company meets its culture, growth, and profitability targets.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills and a deep understanding of retail operations. You will be tasked with developing and executing operational policies, driving revenue growth, optimizing supply chain logistics, and enhancing customer satisfaction. Balancing strategic planning with hands-on management will be key to your success in this role.

Responsibilities 

Retail:

  • Accountable for the performance and gross margin for 10+ store retail operations and a central distribution facility
  • Provide leadership and direction to our stores through effective oversight of activities that promote and enhance the organization’s operational efficiencies and drive long term profitability
  • Lead store management teams to drive efficiencies in store scheduling, payroll forecasting, reporting and administration of incentive programs
  • Stay informed of new technology and cannabis industry initiatives to drive innovation and efficiency within stores
  • Oversee regional and store managers to maintain CRA compliance of back of house standards through regular store visits and audits 
  • Primary liaison between the administrative team and regional store leaders to ensure that all information is communicated in a timely, consistent, and brand-appropriate manner
  • Develop improved sales reporting and measurable KPIs for retail staff, identify incremental sales opportunities, and project associated risks
  • Oversee retail specific training programs and systems in close cooperation with HR and Compliance Teams.
  • Perform Gemba Walks throughout the organization
  • Maintain continuity and standardized operating procedures 
  • Identify, recommend, and implement new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.

Administration:

  • Reports to the CEOs
  • Oversees Retail Managers, Inventory teams, IT, Compliance, Loss Prevention, Customer Service, and Maintenance teams including support staff working within and alongside these teams
  • Supports company growth initiatives, M&A transactions, integrations, and expansion opportunities
  • Supports Midnight Management, Inc. and The Fire Station, LLC. within the cannabis industry and governmental relationships, including working with government and political groups and participating in city council meetings
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements effective and consistent operations-related policies, practices, standards, and security measures
  • Helps prioritize the management and use of funds to align with the organization's vision, mission, and strategic plan
  • Collaborates with the administrative team to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations, projects, and systems

Education & Experience 

  • Must have at least 10+ years of retail experience 
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership capacity
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field highly preferred; MBA or master’s degree a plus
  • Previous experience working in cannabis highly preferred; MSO experience preferred
  • Proven experience in retail operations management
  • Track record of leading change management
  • Demonstrated experience with interpreting data analytics to derive insight and actions
  • Demonstrated strategic and impactful executive leadership in highly collaborative environments
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Must have adequate cannabis product knowledge
  • Lean Six Sigma or process improvement experience 
  • Experience in a start-up and/or scale-up phase organization

Work Environment

  • State & Municipal Law - TFS operates in full compliance with all rules and regulations enforced by the State of Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA). Further, TFS operates in full compliance with the rules and regulations of each municipality they are located within. To operate in compliance with such rules and regulations, employees are required to follow all policies created and enforced by and within TFS facilities. 
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Travel is required and would be expected 2-3 times per week. Most travel will occur in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Some travel may be nationwide.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 9am—5pm in the office. Work will be required outside of these standard hours. Limited work-from-home/remote opportunities.
