Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, cash receipts, client funds, payroll processing (distributions), and general ledger activities.

Financial Reporting:

  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for senior management and partners.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop and monitor firm-wide budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and recommendations to improve profitability and cost efficiency.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, licensing, annual financial audits, and employee benefit audits. Implement and maintain internal controls to mitigate financial risks.

Treasury:

  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity to support operational needs and strategic initiatives. Build and maintain banking relationships, including daily bank administration. Lead the annual renewal process and oversee the quarterly compliance review.

Tax:

  • Oversee the Partnership Accountant and tax process.

Pricing and Legal Project Management:

  • Supervise and mentor the pricing and legal project management team regarding pricing strategies, client profitability, and resource allocation.

Financial Strategy:

  • Collaborate with senior management and partners to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the firm's goals and objectives.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous growth and improvement.

What They're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA highly preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Controller or in a similar financial management role, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience with law firm technology such as Aderant, Chrome River, Iridium Business Intelligence tools is preferred, but not required. Advanced MS Excel skills are a must.
  • Expertise in developing, implementing, and automating processes.
  • A forward-looking innovator committed to enhancing their operational processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, analyze trends, and develop forecasts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
