Job Description

Mater Dei High School, a co-educational college preparatory diocesan Catholic high school, has an opening for a Lead Counselor.

This full-time exempt position provides leadership, advocacy and collaboration at the school to ensure the development and implementation of comprehensive school counseling programs and events that align with the school's mission. Oversee the school counseling department (academic and college planning) to support student success including coordination of all testing services at Mater Dei High School. This includes but is not limited to AP testing, ACT/SAT, College Board, PSAT/NMSQT, and HSPT testing.

Specifically, the Lead Counselor is responsible for providing stategic leadership, program development and implementation, student support and advocacy, parent/family engagement, professional development and supervision.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all School Counselors and counseling support staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Maintain a comprehensive school counseling program and counseling services (school academics and college/career preparation) that align with the school's mission and values.
  • Provide excellent leadership and guidance to all school counselors in implementing all school policies of the counseling department and academic expectations.
  • Manage all MDHS Counseling academic and college preparation programs and events.
  • Coordinate all testing services in collaboration with the Executive Director of Wellness Services.
  • Provides academic, college and career, and social/emotional guidance and support for caseload students and parents per Mater Dei standards, protocol, and requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between families and school personnel to facilitate communication, address concerns, and promote partnership in supporting student support/counseling services.
  • Evaluate and train school counseling staff in providing exceptional academic and college/career counseling services.


Candidate should be dedicated to the mission of Catholic education, as envisioned in Church documents and teachings, rooted in our core principles of Honor, Glory, and Love.

Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree in similar field of study and a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing service as a school counselor required.
  2. 3-5 years counseling experience.
  3. Completion of CPR training and certification.
  4. Working knowledge of counseling models, methods, and
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
