Position: SNAP Outreach Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Programs

FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-exempt/ hourly

Purpose:

The SNAP Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for providing support and guidance to help Northwest Arkansas households understand and access the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). This position works directly with community members to answer questions and help them apply for SNAP benefits. This position supports various program functions, including outreach to community partners to raise awareness about the program, scheduling, and training of volunteers, and recordkeeping.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and guidance to help Northwest Arkansas households access SNAP.
  • Assist neighbors in a timely, informed, and professional manner.
  • Respond to neighbor inquiries over the phone to schedule appointments and answer questions about accessing food assistance and SNAP.
  • Meet with neighbors to complete SNAP applications on their behalf.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of SNAP policies and procedures, as well as other food assistance resources available in Northwest Arkansas.
  • Maintain accurate appointment schedule.
  • Complete necessary documentation and required follow-up.
  • Support various functions to strengthen the reach and efficiency of the SNAP Outreach program.

Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Commitment to understanding and supporting the NWAFB mission, including but not limited to showing compassion to the food insecure.
  • High School Diploma
  • English/ Spanish bi-lingual preferred.
  • Heavy phone use and ability to learn web-based software mRelief.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to work without supervision.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Highly relationship focused and people oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint or other presentation software
  • Must have valid driver's license, proof of liability insurance.

Job Specifications:

The physical demands of this position require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and include sitting, standing, walking, driving, frequent telephone, and computer use. Position also requires the ability to work long hours and weekends as needed, for special events, and campaigns. This job description does not list all the duties of the job.
