Summary The candidate will report to Region Three / Response Division. The ideal candidate for this position will possesses expertise in emergency communications technologies including land mobile radio, satellite radio/phone/data and high frequency and has experience engaging with senior officials during all hazards response scenarios. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will be responsible for advising the Regional Administrator, Response Division Director, and Logistics/Operation Section Chiefs on matters related to communications support and disaster emergency communications. Typical assignments include: Conducting a variety of activities intended to avoid or resolve Federal, state and local interoperability related problems. Serving as the principal advisor to the Regional Administrator, Response Division Director, and Logistics/Operation Section Chiefs on the employment of disaster emergency communications systems in support of first responder requirements. Coordinating the meetings and work of the Regional Emergency Communications Coordinator (RECC) Working Group designed to promote information sharing, solve complex interoperability issues, develop standards and advocate of behalf of the emergency management community to meet anticipated mission requirements. Providing expert tactical communications, potentially serving in the Joint Field Office during a disaster deployment and leading a team of other telecommunications specialists to provide technical guidance and direction for the duration of the deployment. Qualifications Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade and qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-13 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Planning, deploying and utilizing land mobile radio, satellite radio, satellite phone, satellite data, line of site microwave and other associated equipment, systems and services during steady state, special events, disasters and/or other emergency incidents; AND Leading and supporting meetings, briefings and other engagements addressing topics related to emergency communications at the State, Local, Tribal, Territorial or Federal levels including the planning, design and execution of interoperability solutions; AND Leading and managing a diverse workforce supporting incident management or incident support activities.
