Department Overview
PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric) IT is a unified organization composed of various departments which collaborate effectively to plan, deliver, and operate high quality technology solutions. Grid and Control Center technology department is in the process of embarking major transformation journey implementing ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System), DERMS (Distributed Energy resource management system) and supports & maintains legacy applications within Electric distribution & transmission and Gas area to meet identified business goals and priorities.
Position Summary
PG&E is seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to join the DERMS, Customer Experience and Sensing Technologies group within the larger Grid and Control Center technology group. This execution-oriented candidate will manage the IT deployment of PG&E’s Flex DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management System) project and its associated new IT operational processes.
The current focus of the Flex DERMS platform is to consolidate and modernize tools and processes for the demand-side load management including transitioning the existing Demand Response programs onto the new platform and supporting the development of innovative new load management programs and virtual power plant (VPP) offerings (including grid edge technologies such as solar PV, battery storage, electric vehicles and microgrids).
A strong applicant will be highly organized and motivated, with a strong record of accomplishment of success in building consensus and managing many moving parts within matrixed teams.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office(OGO) two days a week.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum:$144,000
Bay Area Maximum:$244,000
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver project scope and objectives; work with project team upon agreed roles and responsibilities; obtain commitment and maintain detailed work plans including schedule, cost, resources, contingency and communication plans.
- Obtain management approval as needed; ensure project documentation is maintained; identify, analyze, and address project issues.
- Manage the integration of vendor tasks and track and review vendor deliverables.
- Communicate project status to all stakeholders; assess project risk and develop contingency plans; and identify and communicate lessons learned and best practices.
- Engage with the IT project execution stakeholders (e.g., Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, IT PMO (Project Management Office), vendors) to leverage PG&E’s Lean Operating System framework of Daily/Weekly/Monthly Operation Reviews (ORs) to drive execution.
- Assemble the project team and utilize the provided cost and scheduling tools to define the scope, budget, and resource needs, and controlling other project variables. Functions as a liaison between IT and the Business Client. Acts as the go-to person that represents the entire project from the planning through to the deployment stage.
- Accurately and consistently forecast project resource, material, and contract costs within a standard PG&E tool(s).
- Develop and maintain a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors, and key clients.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- 8+ years of experience managing one or more complex IT product/software development cycles/projects.
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Project management experience managing one or more large complex IT product/software development cycles/projects.
- Expert knowledge of project management procedures and techniques.
- Ability to work in a matrixed environment and a positive execution-oriented mentality.
- Demonstrated ability to be creative, versatile, efficient, and productive in the face of ambiguity and change.
- Technical knowledge of Cloud systems, IT infrastructure, and integration patterns (API (Application Programming Interfaces), SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol).
Desired:
- 3-5 years Grid & Control Center Technology experience.
- 3-5 years Electric Utility experience.
- Strong financial acumen with 5+ years of experience with budgets exceeding $5M+.
- Experience in Demand Response platforms and/or Energy Systems.
- Experience in LEAN agile methodologies.
- Experience with asset management and vulnerability management systems, analysis, and certification.
- Experience working in PMO (Program Mgt Office) environment and/or Certified Scrum Master.
