Library Assistant Supervisor

JOB OBJECTIVE:
Under general direction of the Director of Library, supervises the Library Aides. Plans and monitors their assigned tasks for completion. Ensures that staff is cross trained on all library functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist library patrons with any and all library transactions - may include cash handling, checking in/out items working with library equipment, processing holds, issuing library cards, collection of fines, shelving library materials, etc. to ensure that excellent customer service is delivered to patrons.
- Prepares and compiles daily statistics and provides monthly reports to the Director of Library with programs such as Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel.
- Composes correspondence, memorandums and spreadsheets as needed.
- Orders all library materials including supplies and books and process for proper payment in accordance with City purchasing procedures.
- Monitors achievement of library goals and reports progress to the Director.
- Assists with ongoing special projects and events within the community and/or Friends of the Library.
- Assists in administering the library's operational budget in an efficient and responsible manner.
- Assists with the completion of monthly/annual reports for the City, County and State agencies, as required.
- Maintains confidential items involving personnel issues and assists the Director accordingly.
- May attend meetings on behalf of the Director when needed.
- Maintains and schedules staff employee leave requests.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining working relationship with local schools, agencies and community leaders.
- Prepares weekly staff schedules for all Library Aides.
- Assists with the planning and coordination of the annual library summer program.
- Assists in formulating policies and procedures for the different areas of the library, under the direction of the Director of Library.
- Assists patrons with utilization of the online catalog, copiers and computers.
- Makes recommendations to the director for the annual budget and is responsible for monitoring all expenditures.
- Selects books and other library materials, as needed.
- Assists the Director in seeking outside sources of funding to supplement library budget.
- Keeps abreast of professional developments in the areas of Reference/Circulation, Cataloging and Technical Services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL:
Computer and general office equipment, as well as library referenced materials and on-line reference tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Individual works indoors in a well-lighted, air-conditioned building. The job has not significant hazards and physical demands are low.Individual will work some evenings and weekends.
EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Requires a High School Diploma with a minimum of three (3) years' related experience and supervisory responsibilities. Some college hours preferred. Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills with proven ability to lead, demonstrate ability to connect positively with organizations, library staff and the general public, excellent communication and customer service skills. Knowledge of principle methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individual and groups, and the measurements of training effects. Must also be computer literate and proficient in Excel, MSWord, PowerPoint, be bilingual (English/Spanish) and possess a valid Texas Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
