Job Description

About the Role

Keyholders are trained and prepared to perform Store opening and closing procedures, at times without supervision. He/She/They provide customer service and sales assistance on the sales floor. He/She/They may be asked back up the Sales Floor Supervisor and/or the Retail Assistant Manager by providing support and guidance for the Sales Staff, handling merchandise returns, troubleshooting at the Point of Sale, and managing customer inquiries. As a Keyholder, He/She/They are to exhibit a high level of responsibility, integrity, and apply leadership and problem solving skills.

S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.

Essential Duties
  • Perform Store opening and closing procedures, including securing the Store and cash receipts at end of day
  • Accurate cash handling and fluency at the Point of Sale system
  • Provide high level of customer service, engaging with guests and offering courteous assistance
  • Familiarity with merchandise in order to efficiently locate product, provide product information, check inventory, and help resolve product discrepancies when necessary
  • May be required to troubleshoot issues with the Point of Sale system and/or customer interactions.
  • May be asked to Supervise the sales floor in the absence of the Salesfloor Supervisor or Retail Manager
Candidate Requirements and Experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • High level of integrity and dependability dealing with cash, merchandise, and store security
  • Knowledge and fluency on the Point of Sale system
  • Provides excellent customer service. Is approachable, courteous, helpful and friendly
  • Exhibits leadership and problem solving skills
  • Ability to remain tactful, courteous, and accurate under pressure and/or heavy customer demand
  • Must be able to work at least 1 weekend day, some holidays and some evenings
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift objects up to 10 lbs. and use a 3 step ladder
  • Some knowledge of literature, history, art, botanicals and tea culture is helpful
Preferred:
  • Previous cash handling and retail sales experience
  • High school degree or equivalent
Working Conditions
  • Extensive face to face customer interaction
  • Periods of heavy customer traffic
  • May involve long periods of standing, walking, some lifting and bending
  • May work at times without supervision
