Summary/Objective Environment for the Americas (EFTA) is a non-profit organization located in Boulder, Colorado. EFTA works to connect diverse people to conservation through education, outreach, and research. Our internship programs are an important example of how we accomplish this goal. We work with underrepresented youth across the country and federal and non-governmental agencies to provide internship opportunities. These intensive experiences introduce participants to important job skills and provide opportunities to work side-by-side with biologists, educators, researchers, historians, and other professionals at national parks, wildlife refuges, and other natural areas across the country. We currently have a position available that will focus attention on habitats for the Monarch butterfly on military installations in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and other states along the I35 corridor. We especially seek an individual with experience living and/or working on military installations and with military personnel. Experience or ability to work with underrepresented communities near installations is a bonus. This position may be in our Boulder, Colorado office or remote, especially if the successful candidate is located on a military base. Hours are flexible during the year, with part-time and full-time activities, depending on the season. Coordinate activities along the I35 corridor and assist with work in California. 2. Organize program logistics, from travel and lodging to webinars and workshops. 3. Develop program materials and activities, such as recruitment and trainings. 4. Communicate with partners at multiple military installations. 5. Plan and implement internship activities. 6. Conduct visits to host sites/military installations to work with interns and site partners. 7. Assist with project budgeting, including developing, invoicing, and managing budgets. 8. Participate in conferences and workshops including, but not limited to those relating to 9. internships, and diversity, equity, and inclusion 10. Assist with intern recruitment and/or participation by Blue Star families 11. Conduct applicant interviews and select candidates 12. Participate actively in internship meetings 13. Develop new ideas and activities that help to improve and expand our internship programs 14. Contribute to a healthy and positive office culture 15. Work professionally with major partners 16. Supervisory Responsibility This position may include supervisory responsibilities, particularly of interns, program assistants, and program leads. Work Environment This job may be based in our Boulder, CO office, but may also be remote, especially if the successful candidate is located on or near a military base. Travel will be required. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must be able to travel by car, plane, train, boat, and bus to visit and during visits to partner sites. The employee must also be able to observe inter work sites. These may vary from offices to outdoor locations in forests, on trails, and other natural sites. Terrain may be uneven, and the employee may need to hike or walk distances over 3 miles. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand. The Internship Manager will be expected to be available for the entirety of the internship calendar. If working on programs that are 12 weeks or fewer, the employee is not eligible to use PTO during that time. Summer internships happen once per calendar year and typically last between 11-12 weeks. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand. Travel Up to 10% travel. Some out of the area travel and overnight will be required. Required Education and Experience 1. A minimum of 3 years of proven ability to organize activities.
