The Recreation Assistant is responsible for the supervision and monitoring of patients utilizing the gym and pool facilities, and assisting in the smooth operations of various day-to-day operations in the Transitional Living Program.

Shift

  • Thursday, Friday and Saturday working from 6:00am - 6:00pm
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Works collaboratively with other departments, especially the Inpatient Nursing staff, to provide supervision to all patients during their use of the gym and pool facilities.
  • Ensures timely and thorough communication between the Recreation staff and Facilities department to address equipment and building needs as they arise.
  • Monitors gym equipment for adequate functionality and safety concerns, including complete sets of parts to include machines, pool/ping pong tables, basket balls. Reports malfunctions/concerns to the Recreation Therapist.
  • Provides clean towels to patients, as needed.
  • Supervises patients in all areas of pool and gym and provides all lifeguard functions concerning the safety of swimmers in pool area. Ensures care provided is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
  • Maintains pool and gym sign-in logs, including holding patients and/or staff accountable for completion of their sign-in/out.
  • Instructs and supervises all patients on cleaning policies regarding use of equipment.
  • Ensures all doors are locked after gym/pool hours end.
  • Recognizes and demonstrates knowledge in response to emergencies, including calling alerts and/or proper personnel for assistance.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Education and Experience:
  • CPR BLS Certification
  • Lifeguard Certification
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to move light objects weighing less than 20 pounds for short distances.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and walk around for different periods of time.
