Description:

A Plumber installs, maintains, and repairs hot and cold water piping supply and waste systems, fire sprinkler systems, and all plumbing fixtures and appurtenances following recognized procedures and techniques of the trade of plumber.

Duties & Responsibilities:
A Plumber repairs and maintains the water distribution system piping, soil waste and vent piping including all plumbing fixtures and appurtenances as per the plumbing codes and regulations of the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois, as well as the fire protection system piping, safety equipment, and lawn sprinkler systems. The Plumber repairs and maintains plumbing systems for all toilet rooms, laboratories, mechanical rooms, swimming pools, kitchens, distilled and demineralized water distribution systems, safety eye wash and deluge shower piping systems, as well as underground sub soil drainage, sewer, acid waste piping and dilution basins, and campus water main distribution systems. A Plumber inspects work site to determine repairs needed, method of repair and supplies and tools required. He/she plans, lays out, fabricates, and assembles piping and fixtures required. The Plumber transports materials, tools, and equipment to the work site and installs and/or repairs piping system. A Plumber installs water distribution systems in new laboratories, as well as revisions to existing piping in mechanical equipment areas and other space. A Plumber installs plumbing piping systems as well as piping revisions for the remodeling and additions to the various buildings of the campus. Inspects work site to determine method and place of installation, and determines tools, equipment and supplies to be used. The Plumber plans, lays out, fabricates, and assembles piping and fixtures as required. He/she transports materials, tools, and equipment to the work site and installs and/or repairs piping system. Prepares written record of daily work activities. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Successful completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship program or five (5) years (60 months) of full-time journey- level plumber experience.
  3. Possession of current State of Illinois Plumber's License. (Please be sure to list andor upload a copy of the Plumber's License. Otherwise, your exam request may bedenied).
  4. As required by position to be filled, current license/certification consistent with vehicles, machinery and equipment that is routinely used in the general occupational area.
