Position Summary

The PC Support Technician I is responsible for providing high-level hardware and software support including installations, troubleshooting, and maintaining corporate computer systems and peripherals. Fields incoming help desk requests from internal employees and provides hands-on technical assistance and training. Maintains an accurate inventory of all desktop, laptop, and computer peripherals. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Position Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions
  • Support, maintain, and repair all personal computers (PCs), laptops, and peripherals for Prince William Water.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all computer equipment.
  • Update and maintain computer software.
  • Deployment of new computer hardware and software.
  • Manage computer images, configurations, software, and other various system settings for PCs, laptops, and tablets.
  • Provide education and training to end users as required.
  • Research, test, and advise on new products for computers, mobile devices, and peripherals.
  • Open, track, and close technical service requests with outside vendors on hardware and software issues.
  • Respond to client inquiries concerning system hardware and software issues.
  • Perform help desk tasks and assist users in the proper use of equipment, software, and manuals as needed.
  • Attend technical training to remain current on new technology and certifications.
  • May be deemed essential at any time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Essential Skills and Experience

Essential Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques of computer support to perform the full range of duties within the field; computer software and hardware operations and equipment (peripherals); principles and practices of computer hardware and software debugging and other troubleshooting procedures; English usage, spelling, and grammar.
  • Ability to operate a variety of computer hardware and software including, but not limited to, desktops, laptops, Mobile Data Computers (MDCs), printers, print servers, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite; install computer hardware and software; diagnose technical problems and determine appropriate action; prioritize and organize work and provide excellent customer service; effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; excel both independently and as a team member in a lively, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; communicate with clients in non-technical terms; follow oral and written instructions.
Minimum Education and Work Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of related experience providing high-level hardware and software support to include installations, troubleshooting, and maintaining corporate computer systems and peripherals.
  • Or combination of education and experience as described above

  • Work environment: Primary work is performed indoors in a standard office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is subject to callback in emergencies on regular workdays, weekends, and holidays. The work is subject to inflexible deadlines. The employee is subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours or work. Employees may be required to monitor and respond to cell phone and/or electronic communications during non-working hours including regular workdays, weekends, or holidays.
