Job Description
This role is for a stealth start-up. We are looking for a Software Engineer who has experience writing python scripts to communicate with hardware.

In this role you will have the extraordinary opportunity to make an impact through autonomy, creativity, and leadership. Leveraging your expertise, you will help build our constellation of next-generation satellites at unprecedented affordability and scale. This pivotal role spans various functions, fostering collaboration and synergy among various departments. Initially, you will be responsible for designing and constructing software systems that will enable a record-breaking demo this year. As you progress, responsibilities will evolve to integrating software with other hardware systems under test, and working on satellite flight software too. You can expect an abundance of stimulating challenges and professional growth. This role grants you the opportunity to shoulder the responsibility of managing multiple software systems throughout your tenure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and build well-structured, maintainable Python-based control and coordination systems for optical and mechanical hardware and other subsystems.
  • Participate in test campaigns ranging from unit-level to auto-testing for subsystems and system-levels
  • Real-time precise orbit positioning (POD)
  • Implement robust telemetry systems for data logging.
  • Collaborate cross functionally & support the team of mostly hardware engineers in their development efforts and tests.
  • Develop state machines and other mechanisms for implementing fault tolerance in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Use your experience to choose the most appropriate technologies and protocols, balancing future maintainability with speed of implementation.
  • Advocate and educate around modern, yet pragmatic, software development practices.
  • Help administer and determine the best practices for our software team.
  • Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from design through testing and deployment.
  • Document your software architectures and code to ensure maintainability and future scalability.
  • Bring technical excellence to everything you do.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience writing, integrating, and testing embedded software.
  • Proficient in Python with a strong background (5+ years) in developing software with direct hardware interaction.
  • Experience with serial communication protocols (e.g., UART, I2C).
  • Experience testing code with hardware in the loop.
  • Experience with telemetry systems, data logging, and transmission over various channels.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Strong organizational and both verbal and written communication skills.
DESIRED:
  • Familiarity with control systems and state machines design.
  • Experience with IoT systems.
  • Aerospace experience, especially with satellite flight or ground software.
  • Strong understanding of satellite orbits, spacecraft dynamics and related modeling.
