The Counseling Center Staff Therapist is an 11-month full-time position that provides mental health and wellness services for the student population at Syracuse University. Specifically, the staff therapist is responsible for the provision of short-term individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, drop-in services, consultation, supervision of graduate student trainees, educational/preventative outreach programming, and participation in the Center’s on-call rotation. As part of the Barnes Center, counseling is an integrated service with colleagues in health, recreation, and health promotion. Counseling staff take a holistic approach to supporting students and are expected to be active members of the university community, represent counseling services on a variety of committees, and collaborate with colleagues across the university to promote student well-being and success. Staff therapists must demonstrate high levels of cultural competency, be well versed at working with students from a variety of traditionally underserved and/or underrepresented backgrounds, and demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, social justice work. All staff therapists lead one or more therapy groups.
