Job Summary

The NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities seeks a skilled Nursing Professional I to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Your primary duties will include monitoring individuals' medical and health needs, providing nursing oversight, and completing reviews of medical services. You will also interact with primary care physicians, medical specialists, and other clinical staff as necessary to ensure the best possible care for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with primary care physicians, medical specialists, and other clinical staff as necessary to ensure the best possible care for our clients.
  • Provide support to residential staff in maintaining health services for individuals.
  • Utilize appropriate reporting mechanisms and chain of command in responding to individual and/or staff issues.
  • Complete follow-up documentation for individuals post-ER/hospital visit follow-up.
  • Review, comment, initial, and date lab, x-ray, consults, and other medical records.
  • Provide necessary documentation regarding home visits within established time frames.
  • Follow pressure wound policy and documentation requirements.
  • Provide health-related training and consultation to day program, IES, and residential staff.
  • Complete annual reviews of medical sections of ISPs and medication audits for each home.
  • Keep up-to-date regarding changes to medical sections on ISPs.
  • Obtain individuals' informed consent for medications, as per BDDSOO policy.
  • Provide adequate nursing assessment and supervision of DSAs' competency regarding individual-specific nursing delegated procedures, including medication administration.
  • Complete initial medication certification and conduct annual clinical performance evaluations for DSAs for procedures that include but are not limited to medication administration.
  • Provide training for all staff as needed on new or revised medications and policies.
  • Provide CMHN, NA, and NPC with certification/recertification information for the database in a timely manner.
  • Complete required medication error documentation and staff medication error remediation.
  • Provide clinical supervision to LPNs and complete performance evaluations regarding individual-specific nursing procedures.
  • Maintain professional skills by attending nursing discipline meetings, on-line mandated DDSO training, and discipline-specific training.
  • Identify problems and/or opportunities for personal and/or nursing department improvement and contribute to the development of an action plan.
  • Complete special projects/assignments.

  • Must have a nursing license.
