JOB TITLE: Resource LPN
SUPERVISOR: Branch Manager/Office Supervisor
HOURS PER WEEK: Variable/Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services
The following information is designed to outline the essential functions and position requirements of this job. It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained.
HIRING BONUS: $500 after 90 days
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide professional nursing care for the comfort and well-being of the patient in a clinical setting. Provide patient advice according to approved written protocols and standing orders. Prepare equipment and assist the provider during examinations and treatment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*Essential Functions)
1. Performs focused assessment and triage on routine or self-limiting medical conditions, via phone and in-person encounters, as directed by the RN/Provider.
2. Recognize when to defer to or consult with the RN/Provider when encountering complex medical conditions.
3. Administer various medications (including parenteral, oral, and/or topical) and document per TPC policy.*
4. Monitor and respond to incoming My Chart messages, gather appropriate information and relay it to the appropriate staff member, and respond to patients as appropriate in a timely manner.*
5. Prepare patients for exam or treatment by proper set up of the exam/treatment room and rooming the patient utilizing The Portland Clinic's (TPC) rooming protocol, including accurate measurement of vital signs and complete documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).*
6. Assist the provider as needed with diagnostic and/or surgical procedures and exams specific to the department. This may include but is not limited to the following: assisting and set-up with in-office procedures, gynecological exams, performing EKGs, PFT/spirometry, minor wound care and dressing, suture or staple removal, nebulizer treatments, and administering medications/vaccinations.*
7. Clean exam and procedure rooms throughout the day as required by OSHA and as needed.*
8. Follow The Portland Clinic (TPC) guidelines for documentation, including the use of forms and computer data entry using EHR (Electronic Health Record).*
9. Comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.*
10. Follow OSHA and TPC guidelines and policies for the prevention of the spread of bloodborne pathogens, including; maintaining a clean work environment, use of safety and personal protective equipment, and engineering controls.*
11. Maintain safety standards such as the use of patient safety equipment, knowledge of emergency procedures, use of handrails on stairs, body mechanics, and ergonomics.*
12. Participate in Code/Triage team activities including bringing certain emergency equipment to the scene of a code or triage call and maintain current CPR certification.*
13. Attend nursing meetings and in-services.
14. Participate on committees to represent the nursing staff.
15. Counsel and educate patients regarding various issues including but not limited to wound care, diabetic teaching, symptom monitoring, and other health-related issues.*
16. Participate as a team member, assist and train others as needed. Work under supervision of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.*
17. Provide leadership for Medical Assistants and non-licensed personnel as appropriate.*
18. Participate as an active care team member in a patient-centered medical home.
19. Assist/float to other departments as needed.*
20. Work respectfully and collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.*
21. Maintain regular work attendance and punctuality.*
EQUIPMENT USED:
Special medical equipment depending on department needs such as ear irrigation tools, AED, surgical instruments, etc... Training will be provided if needed.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
LPN graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Valid Oregon Nursing License
CPR certification
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED:
Previous clinic and/or hospital experience
Current ICD and CPT coding
Basic understanding of infection control
Legalities of charting and telephone conversations

Strong patient assessment ability
Proficiency in charting and documentation

Oral communication skills and excellent phone etiquette with an ability to convey and receive information via the telephone
Competency in language, grammar, and spelling
Ability to interact and establish a good rapport with people over the telephone and in person
Ability to multi-task without a reduction in the quality of work and service performed
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure
Ability to use initiative to proceed with necessary tasks
