JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops project documentation such as 3D designs, drawings, bill of materials, and experiment files utilizing 3D CAD software, PDM, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Gathers essential information from key stakeholders including manufacturing, R&D, sales, customers, and vendors.

  • Conducts Design of Experiment (DOE) testing with the Director of R&D, testing prototypes, and recording and analyzing data to assess design feasibility and identify failures.

  • Develops Verification and Validation test protocols and occasionally conducts product tests, including beta testing of preproduction units.

  • May collaborate with external regulatory bodies to conduct tests on our products that cannot be performed internally.

  • Participates in, and may lead, design reviews with the Director of Product Development, CEO, and key team members from manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to assess design feasibility and readiness. Thoroughly evaluates components from sub to master assemblies.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Manufacturing and Assemblers throughout the development cycle to integrate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) best practices, ensuring robust designs.

  • Participates in immersion events with customers to gather Voice of the Customer (VOC) insights and assess current product usage.

  • Discusses VOC and industry trends with Internal Sales Representatives to support future New Product Development (NPD) initiatives.

  • Partners with the Director of R&D in concept development, creating design concepts that address end-user needs.

  • Utilizes sketches, prototyping, and 3D models, and occasionally engages in field immersion to capture customer insights and understand specific requirements.

  • Provides mentorship to co-ops, transferring design knowledge and overseeing tasks such as testing, design documentation, prototype construction, and drafting.

  • Coordinates with the Director of Supply Chain to ensure accurate specifications are provided for RFQs.

  • Obtains product samples from vendors to evaluate their usability, during exploratory research.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher in a related field of study

  • 3D Modeling - Solidworks- Components, Assemblies, PDM experience

  • DFM / Dfx (Design for manufacturing and assembly) knowledge

  • Injection Molding / Plastics experience

  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge
